JV Trojans remain unbeaten, stop the Wildcats

The JV Trojans get two rushing TD's from Juwan Moye and a 29-yard dash by Demetrius Fairley, all in the first half and coast to a 24-6 win over W.Johnston at beautiful Trojan Stadium Thursday night.. The Trojans are 4-0 on the season, taking their conference opener. The Wildcats nearly match the Trojans in total yards, 202 to 224 for Garner, primarily on two extremely long drives. The Trojans manage only 19 yards in the second half.

The Trojans get on the board on their second series going 59 yards in 5 plays with Moye picking up 39 yards on first down and punches in from 1 yard out. Fairley adds the 2 point conversion for an 8-0 Garner lead. The second quarter opens with the Wildcats fake punt but Andre Gillispie smells it out and drops Preston Kearney for an 8 yard loss and the Trojans take over at the Wildcat 41 yard line. Dwight Darity hits Seth Council for 32 yards on first down and Moye covers the final nine at 11:04 of the second quarter. Fairley adds another 2 point conversion and the Trojans lead 16-0.

The Wildcats answer with a 19 play, 65 yard drive that shaves 7 minutes off the clock with Cameron Umphreys diving in from 1 yard. The 2 point attempt fails for a 16-6 Trojan advantage. Garner takes over on the ensuing possession at the W.Johnston 46, where Shaquille Nurridin blast for 17 yards. Fairley takes it the distance with a powerful 29 yard dash and Moye adds the two for the final score of 24-6. The Wildcats final drive of the half ends with Davonte Atkinson's interception with 0:28 to go.

The second half is mostly Wildcats in terms of time of possession but they fail to score. Another seven minute W.Johnston drive ends with no points when Gavin Wilson drops Darious Sanders for a 4 yard loss to bring up third and 14. Denzel Dorsey manages only 2 yards as the Wildcats go for it on fourth down and the Trojans take over on their own 18. The Trojans drive is killed by a holding call and they punt back to WJ who take over at the Garner 48. Bryan Watkins' 11th tackle of the night drops Sanders for no gain as the third quarter ends. The four minute drive ends again without points and the Trojans take over on their own 22. Fairley and Moye alternate carries for 20 and 13 yards, Moye's last 9 sprung by a terrific Darity block but an incompletion on 3rd and 12 and the Wildcats take the punt at their own 23 but quickly go three and out. The Trojans have their only turnover on a Trey Shirley interception with 1:53 to go in the game. Terrence Fussell drops Sanders for a 3 yard loss to end the Wildcats final threat and the game.

Prior to the game, the stadium gave a moment of silence in honor of Wilver Rodriquez, GMHS junior killed in a car wreck this week. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the Rodriguez family. The Trojans travel to Clayton next Thursday night for a 7PM GNRC game:
