JV Trojans run their record to 7-0, down the Comets

Juwan Moye piles up 198 yards rushing and touchdown runs of 68 and 41 yards and the Trojans defense shuts out the Comets in the second half in the 33-7 win. The make up game was played during the scheduled off week after a previous rain-out.

Davonte Atkinson returns the opening kick 18 yards to the 25. Moyes sweeps 7 yards and on second down breaks free and rambles 68 yards for the score just over a minute into the game. The disasterous first Comet series loses two yards and ends with a 3 yard punt which hits a defender and Garner has it first down on the Clayton 25. But a second down interception gives the ball back to the Comets. But briefly, as Bryan Watkins recovers a Comet fumble at the 36. The 8 play drive features Moye for 4 rushes for 25 yards and Edwin Jackson caps it with a 3 yard touchdown reception from Dwight Darity. Another 2-point attempt fails for a 12-0 Garner lead.

Daniel Alston snuffs out a Cole Turner reverse for a 3 yard loss and Cameron Redd pressures the Clayton QB for an incompletion of 3rd down to keep the Comets without a first down as the first quarter ends. The Trojans fail to pick up a first down on their ensuing possession and the Comets take over deep in their own territory. Clayton QB Matt Reid picks up the first down on 4th and 1 and then hits Turner for 28 yards to enter Garner side of the field for the first time in the game. Turner's 5-yard run is erased by a Comet false start and Atkinson makes a terrific defensive play on 3rd and 10 to bat Reid's pass away. Then Terrence Fussell blocks the Comet punt on fourth down and David Thompson recovers at the Garner 39. But the Trojan drive ends with a pick and the Comets have the ball on the Garner 46. The Comets sustain their only scoring drive, driving to the Trojan 24 where an unusual double foul, Clayton hold and Garner personal foul occurs on a 3 yard loss on reverse by DeAnthony Barbour. However the Trojan penalty is marked off for 19 yards giving the Comets first and 8 for some reason. Erick Winkler rushes twice for 6 yards a piece and Brad Stanback covers the final 7 yards, diving in from a yard out for the Comets score. #8 (not on the Comet roster) adds the PAT to cut the score to 12-7.

The Trojans final drive of the half starts with Jarroll Holloway's recovery of the squib kick at their own 47. Darity hits Seth Council for 32 yards to the Comet 21. However time runs out when Darity is forced out at the Comet two yard line.

As the second half begins, the Comets get the ball first but failed to pick up the first for the 4th of 5 possessions. Moye dashes 29 yards and Demetrious Fairley adds 18 for consecutive first downs. Moye's 5 yard run takes it to the goal line and Darity sneaks it in and then adds the 2 point conversion for a 20-7 Garner lead. The Comets drive to the Garner 35 but Davonte Atkinson picks off the pass at the Trojan one. The 99-yard scoring drive is capped by Moye's 41 yard gallop and Robert Stephenson adds the kick for the 27-7 at the end of the third period.

The Trojans cap the scoring after another Comet series results in negative yards, taking over at their own 48 with 10:25 to go in the game. Andre Gillispie spells Moye and rumbles 9 and then 22 yards. Fairley covers the final 22 for the 33-7 final score and the Trojans remain unbeaten at 7-0.
