JV boys roll to 2-0, varsity falls to Athens Drive again

Coach Blom's JV Trojans annihilate the Jaquars 81-22. Stacy Carroway and Josh McClain pace a balanced scoring attack with 13 a pieced while every Garner player scores. Added to a potent offense that had the Trojans hitting 35 of 68 shots for 51%, good defense shuts the Jaguars out in the second perod and forced 16 first half turnovers.

The varsity Trojans fall again 59-54 despite 14 from Albert Smith and 12 from DaMetrius Upchurch. The fourth attempt for Coach Gray to pick up his 300th career win is all Athens Drive before Smith has a big third period with eight of the Trojans 18 points and a 9-0 run to close the period cuts the Athens Drive margin to just eight. The Jaguars led by as much as 14, using a deliberate, clock-eating motion offense and 50% shooting from the field. Smith hits a 3 pointer to cut it to 55-51 with 4:30 to go. But the Trojans shooting goes cold, missing their last six shots before Karl Agenor hits a three at the buzzer for the final margin.
