Trojans destroy the Hawks for GNRC win

The Trojans roll out hot as a firecracker and run Holly Springs out of Trojan Gym with the 96-53 win. A 31-point first quarter, the largest total for a quarter this season and its off to the races! They outscore the Hawks in three of four quarters and force 29 Hawk turnovers while committing just 14. DaMetrius Upchurch piles up 23 points (on 9-of-13 shooting) and 8 rebounds. Cordero Hunter enters the game and hits his first four shots and finishes 7-of-10 for 16 points. Albert Smith, Karl Agenor and Carl Redd add 11 each.

The Trojans first game after the holiday break starts with them hitting 12 of 17 shots en route to a 31-17 lead after one quarter. Upchurch scores eight in the period. Hunter enters the game at the 3:19 mark and promptly nails a jumper and a 3-point basket to put Garner up 23-12. The 6-0 run by the Trojans start the second, highlighted by a picturesque Carl Redd feed to Upchurch for a thunder dunk. Garner's defense forces 13 Holly Springs (5-11) turnovers in the quarter, sending them into the halftime up 53-25. The Trojans shoot 61% for the half, while the Hawks manage just 42%, and are out-rebounded 17 to 6.

Redd comes out firing in the third quarter as Garner sprints out on a 17-5 run to go up 70-30. Redd hits four straight medium range jumpers and the Hawk backcourt woes continue, giving the ball up six more times. Another 60% shooting period, Garner stretches the lead to 43 after three periods. Redd sets up Upchurch for another rim-rattling slam to open the fourth period and Coach Gray empties the bench with 5:37 to go in the game. Terrence Walker and BJ Gaskins pace the Hawks with 16 each, though Walker manages just one point in the second half. Cody Woodall picks up three rebounds in less than a minute in the closing period in the 96-53 win to send Garner to 6-1 in the conference. Lady Trojans rally for the 39-37 win over the Hawks
Coach Mays' Trojans stage a furious fourth quarter comeback to come from ten back with just five minutes to play for the GNRC win over Holly Springs (9-7). Edris Lucas sparks the comeback hitting three consecutive jumpers and generating two steals. Tyara Hill's three pointer with just 31 seconds to go puts Garner up for good at 38-35. The Trojans (3-10) survive 25 turnovers and 48% shooting to pull out their second conference win. Essence Chism leads the Trojans with 8 points:

JV Trojans blast the Hawks
Garner comes out strong from the opening tip to beat Holly Springs 70-30. The Trojans take advantage of a 23 to 4. opening quarter and gets scoring from each team member. Josh McClain, Jamar Leach & Gavin Wilson had 11 points each for the Trojans (10-3).

JV girls remain undefeated, nip the Hawks
Jamesia Rouse scores with 23 seconds to go on a feed from Kima Sidberry for the 49-48 road win. A very close game throughout, the Trojans ((12-0) start slow. Garner trails 23-17 at the half and it was back and forth for the balance of the game. Sidberry pumps in 16 and Ashley Courtney and Rouse add 10 each:
