JV Trojans Run Past Comets to Stay Perfect

The JV Trojans returned home on Wednesday night as they welcomed the unbeaten Clayton Comets to Trojan Stadium, and after each team turned the ball over on their opening possession, the Trojans found their stride.

On the second Garner possession of the game, they were facing a 1st down from the Comet 38 yard line, and Tyler Hinton took it to the house for a touchdown and it was 7-0 Garner with 3:55 to play in the opening quarter.

On the ensuing Clayton possession, the Comets were moving the ball down field when Garner caused a fumble which was picked up by Tyree Chance and he returned it 46 yards to the house and after a missed PAT, it was 13-0 Garner.

After another Clayton fumble, Garner put together a seven play drive that spanned 60 yards with the big play being another 8 yard touchdown run from Tyler Hinton and just two minutes into the second quarter it was 20-0 Garner.

Clayton would finally get on the board after putting together a 12 play scoring drive that ended with a one yard touchdown run from Gary Richardson and it was 20-7 Trojans with 4:38 to play in the half.

However, the Trojans would again put points on the board with their second long scoring drive. Garner began the drive from their own 43 and used all three timeouts on the drive the big play of the drive was a when Garner was facing a second down and 12 and Vince Jeffries connected with Anthony Tucker for a 21 yard pass play down to the one yard line to set up the Tyler Hinton's third touchdown run of the night and on the PAT try, Garner converted the 2-pt conversion when Vince Jeffries found Hinton in the front of the end zone and it was 28-7 Garner going to the locker room.

The second half would be more of the same as Clayton couldn't do anything on their first drive of the second half but Garner quickly capitalized with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Vince Jeffries to Anthony Tucker and just 6 minutes into the second half,the Trojans had a 35-7 lead.

Clayton scored back to back touchdowns to make the game close at 35-21, but Garner would answer with another time consuming scoring drive. Carrington Austin found pay dirt from seven yards out to cap the drive and make it 42-21 Trojans.

The Comets added a late touchdown to make the score 42-28 which would be the final as the JV Trojans remain undefeated and will travel to Knightdale next Thursday night at 7:00
