Garner continued their dominance of the Tri-9 Conference on Friday night at Trojan Park when they rallied to defeat Fuquay 7-6.

The Trojans struck in the first inning for a pair of runs off Fuquay starter Ryan Weaver. Alec Hulmes reached base with two outs, but would later score on a RBI single from Matt Powell the next batter was Colin Perry and he drove Powell home on a double and after one it was 2-0 Garner.

But, Fuquay came right back and scored a run in the top of the second and after Garner added another run in the bottom half, the Trojans looked to be in control leading 3-1. Again, Fuquay came right back as the Trojans really helped the cause in the fourth with a total six walks which allowed four Bengal runs to score and going to the bottom of the fourth, the Trojans were down 6-3.

Down by three, the Trojans began to chip away with a single run in both the fourth and sixth innings while on the mound, Matt Powell pitched great in relief for the Trojans as Powell did not yield a hit in his 3 1/3 Innings of relief.

Powell's strong performance kept Garner in it and going to the bottom of the seventh, Garner trailed by just one.

With one out, Colin Perry came to the plate and lined a single to right centerfield for a single, that brought up the fantastic Freshman, Jared Newbry who on a 0-1 pitch, he laced a gaper to right center which allowed Perry to score and Newbry pulled into third with his second triple of the year.

Following a walk to Brett Bailey Garner had runners at second and third as Bailey advanced to second on his second steal of the year. With Connor Toruella at the plate, Garner's Jared Newbry raced toward the plate and got into a run down, but that's when Fuquay made the games biggest miscue of the night throwing error that hit off the pitcher's glove and allowed Newbry to score and give Garner a 7-6 win.

Garner (7-9) will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to West Johnston for a 7:00 first pitch.
