Garner clogs Creek

Garner set the tone on the first play from scrimmage and never looked back as the Trojans rapped past Middle Creek 35-21 on Friday night at Trojan Stadium.

Garner (4-0) scored on the first play from scrimmage as Demetrius Fairley rumbled 67-yards for the opening score.

It remained 7-0 in favor of the Trojans until late in the second quarter. Garner got the football after they punted the ball to Middle Creek when the ball hit the Mustang returner and bounced right to Josh Bullock who recovered for the Trojans.

The turnover set up a touchdown pass from Vince Jefferies to Damian Ellis for his first score of the season and Garner took a 14-0 lead to the locker room.

Middle Creek (2-2, 1-0) went three an out to start the second half but on their first drive of the third quarter, Juwan Moye got in on the action scoring from three yards out and a 21-0 Garner lead.

On the ensuing drive, another Mustang miscue led to a blocked punt by the Trojans and a one yard touchdown from Fairley and a 28-0 lead for the home team.

Middle Creek got on the board midway through the third on a David Salmon 11-yard scamper for the score.

Salmon scored again on a keeper, late in the third quarter with a 18-yard run to make it 28-13 in favor of Garner as the fourth quarter began.

After the Mustangs faked a punt and didn't get the first down, Garner had the ball on the one yard line which set up Moye again for the score and gave the Trojans their final score of the night.

Garner held on for the 35-21 victory and improves to 4-0 for the first time since 2007 and following tonight's win, the Trojans are now 8-1 all-time against the Mustangs.

Next week, Garner will begin Greater Neuse River Conference play as they travel to Clayton to battle the Comets with kick-off set for 7:30.
