Garner stays perfect with win over Caps

Garner used a mix of the air, ground and one outstanding pass defense to down Broughton 37-13 on Thursday night at Broughton Stadium.

The Trojans struck first as Tyler White nailed a 15-yard field goal, his first of the season, on Garner's opening drive.

However, Broughton (0-2) answered back as Chris Mangus rumbled 36-yards for the Capitals to make it 6-3 in favor of the home team after the extra point failed.

That lead for Broughton didn't last long as Garner (3-0) came storming back as Vice Jefferies found Brayden Sims wide open down the sideline for a 45-yard touchdown grab and made it 10-6 Trojans.

Garner added one more first half touchdown as Jefferies found Sims again and at the half, it was 16-6 Trojans.

The second half proved to be more of the same as the men of Troy scored on their second possession when Jefferies found the end zone from a yard out to make it 23-6 Trojans.

While the Garner offense was racking up points, the defense was putting all kinds of pressure on Will Cooper. The junior quarterback who passed for 2,300 yards last year completed just one pass on Thursday night.

But, the Garner offense wasn't done as Juwan Moye and Sam Stidwell added rushing touchdowns in the final quarter and helped lead the Trojans to their first 3-0 start since 2007 with a 37-13 victory.

Garner will be back in action next Friday night when they return home to face Middle Creek, kick-off is set for 7:30.
