Trojans blast Comets

Garner outscored Clayton 20-8 the the third quarter to blow open a 10-point halftime lead as the Trojans coasted past the Comets 72-45 on Friday night at Jerry Smith Court.

The Trojans (5-0, 1-0) placed four players in double figures led by Dominique Reed who posted a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Trojans.

The men of Troy got off to a fast starting taking a 9-0 lead before Clayton (4-2, 0-1) came back to cut it to a 20-13 lead after the opening quarter. Anthony Gaskins kept the Comets close in the second quarter as he scored six of his team high 11 points in the second and make it a 34-24 Trojan lead at the break.

In that third quarter, Gavin Wilson dialed up a pair of three pointers while Reed scored five of his 18 in the games third stanza and after three, it was 56-34 Garner.

The fourth quarter proved to be more of the same as Garner was able to get the Comets in foul trouble and work the ball to the big guys down low to extend the lead and coast to the 72-45 victory.

Garner returns to action on Tuesday night at 8:00 when they host East Wake at Trojan Coliseum.

Lady Trojans fall short

Kiyanna Stokes
poured in 19 points for Coach Mays and the Lady Trojans on Friday night but it wasn't enough as Garner fell to Clayton 69-46 to drop their conference opener.

The Lady Trojans are back in action on Tuesday when they host East Wake at 6:30

JV Girls and boys split with Clayton

Garner's JV Girls fell to Clayton 32-21

The JV boys won 35-28.

Both teams are at home on Tuesday at 4:00 and 5:15 respectively.
