Trojans drop first game of the year

Wake Forest-Rolesville couldn't miss on Monday night and they used the home crowd at Larry Lindsay Gymnasium to hand Garner their first loss of the year, 80-62.

The Cougars (8-2) jumped out to an early 11-4 lead in the first quarter and were able to survive a quick Garner run to close the first quarter up 21-19. But, Dominique Reed was the steady hand for the Trojans in the first quarter scoring 10 of his game high 21 in the opening period.

Garner (7-1) tried to cut into the lead into the second quarter as they went on a 5-0 spurt midway through the stanza. However, the Cougars were able to extend the advantage to 10-points at 38-28 at the break.

But after halftime everything went the way of the Cougars and the Trojans didn't have an answer as Wake Forest took a 56-40 after three.

The fourth quarter was more of the same as the Cougars handed Garner their first loss of the season 80-62.

Garner will return to action on Dec. 28 when they face Strake Jesuit of Houston, Texas in the opening round of the High School OT.com Holiday Invitational. Tip-off from Broughton's Holiday Gym is slated for 7:20 p.m.

Varsity Girls fall

Coach Mays and his Lady Trojans were coming off a big win over SSS on Friday night, however, they couldn't capitalize on the victory as they dropped a non-conference tilt to Wake Forest-Rolesville 53-48 on Monday night.

The Lady Trojans return to action on January 3 when they host West Johnston at 6:30.

JV Splits

The JV Lady Trojans fell to Wake Forest-Rolesville 48-20 on Monday night, they are back on the hardwood January 3 at 4:00 when they host West Johnston.

Coach Bloms and the JV Boys continued their winning ways with a 74-63 victory at Wake Forest-Rolesville on Monday night. They'll be back in action on December 27 at a JV Tournament at Athens Drive.
