Trojan comeback falls short

Garner scored two runs the bottom of the seventh to pull to within one run of Fuquay-Varina but fell short of completing their comeback as the Bengals topped the men of Troy 8-7 on Saturday afternoon at Trojan Park.

The Trojans (3-2) trailed by three runs (5-2) entering their final at bat but managed to score a pair of runs to cut into the Bengal lead. Carrington Austin doubled with one out and after a walk to Trever Lee, Skyler Strickland laced a two-run single to left center to pull Garner to within a run. Vince Jefferies laid down a bunt single (his third hit of the day) to load the bases with two outs, however the comeback bid would be thwarted as Levin Woodall lined out to second to end the game.

Fuquay-Varina (4-0) opened up a one run game in the sixth with three unearned runs. The big hit of the inning was a two-run, two out single off the bat of Duce Johnson and give the Bengals an 8-4 lead before the Trojans added some runs.

Garner will return to action on Tuesday night at 7:00 when they travel to Pleasant Field to take on the Clayton Comets in the Greater Neuse River Conference opener.

JV Bounces Back

Following their first loss of the season on Wednesday afternoon, Coach Nelson and his JV Trojans bounced back with a 6-5 victory over Fuquay-Varina.

Garner scored four runs in the first inning and survived a Bengal rally to earn the one run victory.

The Trojans will open up their conference season on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 when they travel to Pleasant Field to battle the Clayton Comets.
