Second Half Surge Powers Trojans Past Broughton

WEB CAST.

Garner scored 21 points in the third quarter to bust open a one-point 21-20 contest and cruise past the visiting Broughton Capitals on Thursday night at Trojan Stadium.

Trailing by a touchdown, Broughton (0-3) took the second half kick-off back for a score as Caleb Gabriel ran it back 90-yards to make it a one point game after the ensuing extra point was block.

The Capitals would get no closer as Garner (3-0) took the ball following the score and took it 56-yards to score on a Raevon Smith four yard touchdown to make it an eight point lead for the men of Troy.

After the Caps went three and out the Trojans took just one play to as Vince Jefferies found Armani Lanier for the third time in the contest to bust the game wide open at 35-20. But, the Trojans were not done in the third stanza as Tyler Hinton truncated the final scoring drive of the third quarter rumbling in from two yards out and heading to the final stanza, Garner led 42-20.

Kenneth Perkinson added a 32-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter and Hinton scored, again. Following a late score by the Caps, Garner would roll 51-27.

Despite turning the football over five times on the night, Garner was still able to rack up 680 yards of total offense - rushing for 414 yards and three total touchdowns while the Trojans passed for 264 yards and two scores.

The Trojans return to action next Friday, September 7 when they travel to Middle Creek to take on the Mustangs. Kick-off is slated for 7:00.

JV Trojans Fall to Broughton

The JV football team dropped their first game of the year Wednesday night, 35-14 at Broughton High School.

Broughton opened the game with a 77-yard scoring drive in just four plays to take an early touchdown lead. However, the Trojans came storming right back and knotted the game as David Hamilton dashed 18 yards for the score and after an Austin Marbrey extra point, the game was even at seven with 11 minutes to play in the opening half.

However, the Capitals added three more scores before the half came to a close and took a 26-7 lead into the locker room.

Garner (1-1) got its loan second half score on defense when Kevan Coppage returned a fumble 29-yards for the score.

That would be as close as the Trojans would get as they fell 35-14 in the first road game of the season.

Garner will return to action next Thursday when they host Middle Creek at Trojan Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 6:30

Trojans Run Past Jaguars

WEB CAST.

Raevon Smith rushed for three touchdowns and helped Garner build a 35-point first half lead and never looked back as the Trojans coasted past Athens Drive, 42-7 on Friday night at Peter Williams Stadium.

Garner (2-0) took the opening kickoff and promptly marched the ball down the field 81 yards to pay dirt as Tyler Hinton began the scoring party with a scamper from 25 yards out.

Following a three and out by the Jaguars, the Trojans went to air as Vince Jefferies found Armani Lanier on an 81-yard touchdown pass to give the Trojans a 14-0 lead after Kenneth Perkinson nailed the extra point.

Already leading by a pair of scores, Garner matriculated the ball down the field as Jefferies added a rushing score to his ledger finding the end zone on an eight yard boot leg to put Garner up 21-0 early in the games second stanza.

Smith finally got in on the scoring parade midway through half capping a 13 play, 50 yard drive for the Trojans. On the ensuing possession, Athens Drive (1-1) went three and out and punted the ball away to Nyehim Hines who returned the punt 86 yards for the score (the second punt return for a touchdown this season for the sophomore), to make it 28-0 Garner.

After the teams traded punts, Smith found the end zone again as time was waning in the opening half scoring on a 38 yard scamper to put Garner up 35-0 at the break.

The Trojans added another score from Smith and took a 42-0 lead early in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, the Jaguars were able to sustain a couple of drives late in the game and finally put a score on the board as Dominique Lynch scored from five yards out and capped the scoring, giving the Trojans a 42-7 victory.

Garner returns home on Thursday night at 7:00 when they entertain the Broughton Capitals at Trojan Stadium.

JV Football Runs Past Athens

Garner scored three rushing touchdowns on Thursday night at Trojan Stadium and survived a comeback effort from Athens Drive as the Trojans earned a season opening victory, 29-17.

Garner (1-0) got on the board during its first drive as Tyreece Taylor rumbled 26-yards for the games opening score and after Austin Marbery added a field goal from 32 yards away to give the Trojans a 9-0 lead.

Athens Drive (0-1) answered right back with a 61-yard pass for a score to make it 9-7 after one quarter of play.

In the second stanza it was more of the same as Taylor broke free once more for his second rushing score of the night - this time from 62 yards out and gave Garner a 16-7 lead. The Jaguars answered back, again. This time it was the defense that did the job as they picked off a Trojan pass and returned it 16-yards to make it 16-14 Garner as the teams headed to the locker room.

Athens would not get any closer as the Trojans pulled away in the second half. Max Meador scored on Garner's opening drive of the second half.

The final score of the night came from Taylor once again and capped the scoring and give the Trojans a 29-14 win.

Garner returns to action next Wednesday night as they travel to Broughton to take on the Captials, kick off is slated for 6:00.

WEB CAST.

One season removed from an appearance in the 4-AA State Championship, the Garner Trojans picked up where they left off earning a season opening, 45-6 victory over Enloe at Trojan Stadium.

Garner (1-0) built a quick 18-point lead as they pounded the Eagles on the ground. Nyheim Hines made his Trojan debut by scampering from 13-yards out to put the men of Troy up 6-0 after a missed extra point.

The Trojans made it 12-0 after Enloe (0-1) botched a punt inside its own five and Tyler Hinton earned his first rushing touchdown of the season scoring from four yards out.

Already up by a pair of scores, the Garner triple headed backfield scored again as Raevon Smith scored for an 18-0 Trojan advantage.

Enloe's loan highlight came during the ensuing drive - on the first play, Gerald Payton rumbled 62 yards to set up the Eagle score three plays later on Paul Krahe's quarterback keeper to make it 18-6, Trojans.

However, that would be as close as Enloe would get as Garner put up three more scores in the opening half as Hines stole the show. The sophomore scored on the ground again before taking a punt back 82 yards for pay dirt and sending the Trojans to the locker room up 39-6.

The final score of the night came from Samuel Stidwell who scored midway through the third quarter for the final, 45-6 win.
